Xerxes
The name Xerxes means ‘king’. A
king, according to the dictionary, is a male sovereign who is supreme or
preeminent in a particular group, category, or sphere.
Jesus Christ is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. When
Xerxes makes Him the king and ruler of his life he learns from Him how to
govern his own life and affairs.
Because of the nature of the meaning of his name the Lord may very
well give Xerxes a few more hills to climb than most of us have to face. It
is through the battles we face and overcome that we gain our strength.
Xerxes has to be strong in order to rule as the Lord would have him to rule,
with love and mercy. It is
through these battles, fought and won, that he also learns about weaknesses
and how to overcome them.
Understanding how to be an over- comer and a ruler causes him to be
tender hearted in some ways. In others he may appear to be a little
conservative and standoffish. Xerxes can even seem to be a bossy kind of
guy. He is an upright guy, not one to lean on necessarily, but one to look
up to and to be able to follow as he follows his Lord.
Pro
25:28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken
down, and without walls.
