The name Thomas means 'twin'. The interpretation of this name is "seeker of truth". The Lord Jesus Christ is the Truth and it is His desire that we all seek Him for He is the answer to all our needs and desires.

Thomas searches out a matter thoroughly and ponders it in his heart before he takes any action. He has to be certain, be sure. This may make him appear at times to be wishy-washy and not know how to make up his mind. He is not one that takes just any one person's word or opinion, he goes the second mile in making sure that what he believes to be true is really the truth. This is not because he is a 'doubting Thomas’, but more because he believes that seeing is believing. When he finally gets hold of what he deems to be the right way to go, he goes with his heart as well as his mind.

Thomas is a man that can be trusted to do the right thing in a tight situation because he holds the truth in such high esteem. Many things may be told him that may or may not be true. He can be trusted to keep quiet about these private matters until he knows in his heart what is good, true and right. He then can give good sound and wise counsel because Thomas knows, in his heart, the Source of all Truth.
