Margaret

The name Margaret means ‘a pearl’. This can be seen as a jewel or as a symbol of wisdom. Knowing that it takes quite a while to form a pearl and that it also takes a quite a while for a person to develop wisdom then the two could be seen as having the same meaning.

By visiting a web site about pearls I found the following information:  Oysters in both freshwater and saltwater environments produce pearls. The formation of a natural pearl begins when a foreign substance slips into the oyster between the mantle, which is a thin layer of tissue that separates the shell from the soft body, and its shell, which irritates the mantle. The oyster's natural reaction is to cover up that irritant to protect itself. The mantle covers the irritant with several layers of the same substance that is used to create the shell. This eventually forms a pearl.

The name Margaret means ‘a pearl’. A pearl is a jewel which can be seen as a symbol of wisdom. Wisdom doesn’t just appear over night, as pearls do not develop in a day’s time. Pearls develop naturally over time and wisdom is gained through understanding. Understanding comes through knowing God, His Word and His ways.  Margaret, then, when she is born again, develops wisdom as she grows in the Lord and in His ways.

Some people are considered to be a gem, or a pearl or precious because of their kindness, helpfulness or some such characteristic. Margaret is all of these and more but not because she is such a sweet or good person. It is because of the wisdom given to her by God to use to help His people. She makes practical judgments in her own life and often helps others resolve differences of opinion.

Margaret’s wisdom has not come quickly or easily. It has come through much time and prayer and also through the bumps and lumps that come with living. All people suffer hardships of some nature but not all people learn from them. God has allowed these things to come into her life.  Not just to teach her a lesson, but rather so that she would become skilled at coping with them thereby causing he to learn to trust in, and upon, Him.

Pro 3:13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
